Statue of Liberty – New York, NY

Statue of LibertyThe Statue of Liberty, to me, represents more than just a symbol of freedom.  She represents hope as a lit beacon in the darkness. There is not much more to say about the Statue of Liberty that hasn’t been said already.  We all know the history.  Her importance as a symbol of freedom, friendship, as well as a National Monument, is easily felt when you arrive by ferry.  You will feel that every time you look up from the base or from a distance.

I felt this sort of awe while the ferry was slowly moving closer to Liberty Island. But, the feeling of awe and inspiration was at its peak when I looked up from the base.

The Park Ranger staff were all friendly and made a noticeable effort to talk about the history of this monument and to make you feel welcome.  The Park Ranger attending the elevator even had some jokes lined up.  All in all, the Statue of Liberty is a ‘must visit’ piece of history and patriotism whether you are a ‘tourist’ or not.

If you are planning to visit the Statue of Liberty or Ellis Island, I recommend you plan well in advance. The tickets sometimes book up quickly so three months in advance is good for crown access.
