Lago – Las Vegas, NV

Review of Lago at Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV – We were fortunate enough to be able to score a same-day reservation for dinner on a warm Thursday evening. What we didn’t know was that somehow, we were able to get one of three best tables in the house – the front and center fountain facing balcony tables! What an amazing view and experience it was.

Decor

The ambiance, decor, and atmosphere of Lago is clean, bright, with a lake house feel – more so outside on the patio than in the main dining room. The balcony overlooking the famed Bellagio fountains was a treat. An additional element of our experience was having a front row unobstructed view of the Bellagio Fountains show every 15 minutes!

Lago by Julian Serrano is an Italian Tapas-style restaurant with a focus on fresh seafood dishes created with style and bursts of flavor. For libations, we tried a selection from the cocktail menu: the Lago cocktail and Sgroppino for her and the Rose & Rye and the Serrano “Leather-Aged” Negroni. Our dinner consisted of five tapas: Pesce Al Cartoccio, Brodetto Di Vongole, Capasanta Alla Putanesca, Hamachi Crudo, Oysters, and a finish of an amazingly crafted limoncello dessert.

Our first course consisted of Kumamoto oysters and Hamachi Crudo. The oysters were fresh, crisp, and had a tangy red wine mignonette accompanying them. The take on the Hamachi was also refreshing; Dressed in a fresh cucumber juice, spicy oil, and micro greens, it was bliss on the palate. Our second course consisted of a traditional clam dish in white wine braise and scallops in a tomato boquerone sauce. The clams reminded me of fresh buckets of white wine garlic clams I used to get growing up at the Redondo Beach pier. The scallops were prepared perfectly and paired well with what I thought would be an overpowering combination of tomato and boqueron. Our main course was the fresh fish of the day en papillote, the branzino. The branzino was accompanied by a caponata, and while not being a huge fan of eggplant, I loved it!.

The grand finale was the dessert. I would suggest this, along with the creative cocktails, was the stars of our meal. This dessert was just called ‘limoncello’ but it was so much more. It combined elements of limoncello, pastry, chocolate, and fruit that had us wanting to order another.

Every dish was a creative use of fresh ingredients highlighting the main ingredients. We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our meal from the moment we stepped up to the entry, throughout our meal with the Bellagio fountains dancing in the background every quarter of the hour, to the dessert.
