The St. Anthony Hotel – San Antonio, TX

The St. Anthony Hotel is a true gem of a property in San Antonio.  The St. Anthony is a member of the Starwood Luxury Collection, and it lives up to the standards. Since the completion of its restoration and renovation in 2015, we have stayed at the St. Anthony at least half a dozen times. Anytime we are visiting the San Antonio Riverwalk area, we make an effort to book at this hotel over any other hotels if available.

The history of the St. Anthony can probably be found in a historical book, but it doesn’t feel old in a bad way.  From it’s opening in 1909 to the hordes of stars, dignitaries, and royalty that have passed through, it has aged well.  You can also write a book about the supernatural and hauntings in and around the hotel, searching for the haunted rooms and floors. The architecture is grand, and many of the old spots were kept preserved, such as the St. Anthony Club and the upstairs Library.

We’ve stayed here several times, and every time has been memorable. During every stay, the service has been impeccable from the moment we arrived at the valet to the moment we walk out to pick up our car.  The front desk staff is courteous, expeditious, and ensures we feel very valued as customers – this seems trivial but a lost art at most hotels these days.

The decor and ambiance of the hotel are luxurious and classic with very little details left out.  Even the turndown service had a touch of creativity leaving rose petals on the bed and in the toilet….yes, in the toilet.  Nice touch! The rooftop pool on the 6th floor is great, with well-stocked towels and a quiet inviting setting.  The restaurants and bars within the hotel, although new since the renovation, were of high quality.

The St. Anthony is where you should stay, whether it is for a short trip for business, or for a vacation on the Riverwalk!
